Healing TOGETHER one wave at a time
The ocean is a way of life for majority of our islanders. Unfortunately, not all able to experience the serenity of our ocean due to limitations that prevent people with disabilities from accessing the beach, and the thought of ever getting onto a surfboard might seem to be only a dream. Mana'olana partners with Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors to erase such limitations and make surfing a realty!
The feeling of floating over the ocean and riding a wave will last a lifetime! The healing powers of the ocean wash away the worries, limits, fears, and daily stresses of LIFE away- not only for participants but for the lifeguards who volunteer their time year after year to make this event possible since 2005.
Taking to the sea in a traditional outrigger canoe.
Experiencing the ocean by way of a traditional outrigger canoe, paddling through the water like the ancient Polynesians did to voyage through the Pacific Ocean, and feeling the ocean breeze and sun shine are just a few ways to describe why outrigger paddling is the official team sport of our Hawaii State. Sharing this experience with people who might otherwise never get the opportunity to get out of their wheelchairs and into a canoe is a goal and made reality with the help of Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors, Anelakai Adventures and Keauhou Canoe Club
"Connecting people with the ocean and uniting together in a wa'a (hawaiian canoe) to create memories and smiles is an experience we are grateful to share in. The aloha from families to allow us to provide this opportunity to our special needs community is overwhelming and such an honor "
